hellifax horror fest!!!!!!

anime man on fire wow perfect. glad i had this. time to talk about hellifax. last year, or maybe the year before, i saw posters for this event, but it had already passed. last year i definitely wasn't home when it happened. i had something else going on, so i only went to three showings. i wish i at least went to the shorts too, which i could have done.

anyway... ancestral beasts. i really liked this movie! but it was more... not that great as horror (not scary and the monster didn't impress me that much), very good as a movie about family and mental illness. elise was a great character who was really real and relatable, someone you want to see succeed and find peace. i like how this movie has the trope of "staying in the house in the middle of nowhere" BUT it just feels natural. the director talked about how he liked putting horror tropes in the movie, but it's really impressive how NOT trope-y he made them feel. also, in a lot of movies where someone visits the ~creepy rural house~, it's (supposed to be) a vacation! fun! with friends! but then if they go into town, the townspeople are going to be like EEUUUGH CITYFOLK BEST GET OUT. for elise, it's the exact opposite. the fact that she possibly doesn't have any friends at home makes me feel even more connected to this movie. there's so much more i could say about this movie, but this is too long already........

next: turn it up. this was the most elder millenial movie ever. i'm sure everybody involved had fun making this movie. it brought to mind many famous pieces of media that i have consumed before, or have not consumed but are famous enough that i know enough about them anyway. drumheller alberta mention.

third: the glorious dead! this movie was so much fun and it made me really happy!!!! i don't really know anything about the adams family but i want to watch the rest of their movies now, but idk if they'll be as good!! deb was an awesome main character. let this woman have her coffee. let her have her day off. one detail i really loved for no reason was the chandelier in that guys house. i love when women have guns. the music was cool too! very delicious blood and gore and weird holes in the ground. the monsters sure were something. i loved mikey's random theories. also omg mychem. not. i guess the only thing i didn't really like was the rapture aspect like huh?? is this pro-christianity??? surely not lmao. also hahaha when mary was speaking japanese and im like. damn i understand this enough for it to be funny
